President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo recently signed Republic Act No. 9644 entitled “An Act Declaring August 28 of every year a special non-working holiday in the City of Cagayan de Oro to be known as “Cagayan de Oro City Day.” The law was signed on June 11, 2009.

THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is pushing for the construction of a slaughterhouse near its Cagayan de Oro port in a bid to lure hog and cattle growers to ship processed meat rather than transporting livestock all the way to Manila.

A local daily has quoted Rep. Rufus Rodriguez saying that the Mindanao Railways project would commence before the year-end. This after the Project Management Office was recently established in Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City to oversee the preparation and implementation of the project.

Chicco Di Caffé, a Davao-based coffee shop will open its Cagayan de Oro branch today at SM City. The specialty coffee shop was started by Abraham C. Rojas and his wife Mildred Rojas.
Their first branch was formally opened just last February 28, 2009 in Davao City.
